Our History

Board of Directors
In 1985 a number of volunteers came together to talk about providing support services to the Lesbian and Gay community of Westchester. The vision was to have peer facilitated groups where people could talk and socialize. Mental Health Clinicians worked with other volunteers to develop a mission statement and provide training and supervision to our facilitators. Since that time LPSS has provided regular ongoing groups for our community as well as for those who join us from the entire tri-state region. We are very proud of our continuous service of providing workshops and discussion groups to our community. Aside from training our own volunteers, we have trained facilitators for a teen group, known today as Center Lane, a service under the umbrella of WJCS. Our volunteers and clinicians have conducted thousands of groups, reaching out to hundreds of thousands of individuals over the years. Many of our participants have gone on to become volunteers themselves, creating their own way of giving back to the community.

In 2002 LPSS became incorporated, and in 2006 we were able to lease a space at 7 Holland Avenue, White Plains, New York 10603. After years of renting rooms from numerous not for profit organizations in Westchester County, having our own space is wonderful. It enables Lambda to expand its services and to offer a more flexible and ongoing supportive program for the LGBTQ Community. We welcome and appreciate your continued support of and participation in Lambda Peer Support Services.
