Womens’ Consciousness Raising
Periodically, though out the year, LPSS announces the next round of Womens’ Consciousness Raising Group meetings for the Trans-sexual (M-F), Lesbian, Bisexual and Questioning Women’s Community. Check the most recent News Brief for when the next round will begin. This is a unique support group for the trans-sexual (M-F) women. The group strives to foster a sense of understanding, belonging and unity within the Trans-sexual, Lesbian, Bi-sexual and Questioning Women’s Community. The number of participants is limited. Please call LPSS @ 914-514-3220 to register.
Process: Within a safe, nonjudgmental, confidential group setting, each person examines her own personal experiences on the topic of the week. The individual personal experiences are then framed in a political context increasing awareness about how the current power structure benefits from transphobia, homophobia, racism, ableism, sexism, heterosexism, etc.
Format: Each consciousness raising series consists of a six to eight week closed group followed by a break before another series, opened to new participants, becomes available.
Future: Consciousness raising groups can address other “isms” and/or other parts of our LGBTQ population to unite our community and foster a sense of understanding and belonging.
